Elena Lutz

Elena Lutz is a Ph.D. candidate in Urban Economics and Urban Policy at ETH Zurich and a research associate at the MIT Urban Economics Lab. Her research is at the intersection of economics, urban planning, and data science. Specifically, she is interested in how urban planning policies – notably zoning and public transit – affect socioeconomic segregation, housing affordability, and environmental sustainability in cities.  To answer these questions, she uses novel data sources, such as GPS data from mobile phones, and econometric techniques for policy evaluation.
