Elena Lutz

Elena Lutz is a Ph.D. candidate in Urban Economics and Urban Policy at ETH Zurich and a research fellow at the MIT Urban Economics Lab. Her research is at the intersection of economics, urban planning, and data science. Specifically, she is interested in how urban planning policies – notably zoning and public transit – affect socioeconomic segregation, housing affordability, and environmental sustainability in cities.  To answer these questions, she uses new sources of data, e.g., from web-scraping or mobile phones and econometric techniques for policy evaluation.
